About Discovering Buddhism Discovering Buddhism is a contemplative education program developed by the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) that explores major topics of the Buddha's teachings on the spiritual path through fourteen courses that run about 5-8 weeks each. It is meant to be an impactful and solid introduction to Buddhist thought and practice that can be integrated into one's life.
Each course has lectures, meditation, supplemental readings, discussion, reflective homework assignments, and a one-day meditation retreat.
The courses can be taken informally, or as a certificate program. If all modules are completed, including the additional requirements of meditation practice, one can work toward becoming a registered FPMT instructor of the courses to benefit others. For more info on the program, please visit FPMT's website.
