Living a Compassionate Life in a Balanced and Healthy Way
A Book Study on Joan Halifax's 'Standing at the Edge'
Alternating Wednesdays, Feb 17 - April 28, from 6:30pm - 8pm MST
Course Description
In this class we will explore how to live a compassionate and courageous life in a balanced and healthy way based on the five 'edge states' identified by Joan Halifax - altruism, empathy, integrity, respect, and engagement. We will also discuss how to recognize when we are falling over the edge into unhealthy versions - pathological altruism, empathic distress, moral suffering, disrespect, or burnout... and how to right ourselves with compassion. This class will focus on practical ways to practice these qualities in our lives and will include presentation, discussion, and meditation.
All are welcome to attend. No one is turned away due to a lack of funds.
Donations are offered to teachers after covering operation costs for the center.
Suggested donation is $15-$20 per session or $40-$60 for the entire course.
